Job Summary

Purchases vehicle and facility parts and supplies for inventory, capital assets, services and supplies. Solicits quotes, determines best sources, negotiates terms, and awards purchase orders/contracts according to federal and state regulation and departmental SOPs by evaluating pricing, quality, reliability and responsiveness of suppliers and providers. Assists in the development and implementation of Utah Transit Authority procurement policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Bachelors degree in Business Administration or related field. This position requires a credit check.

EXPERIENCE:

Two years of experience in purchasing, inventory control and/or materials planning with demonstrated progressive competence, preferably in the public sector. Preference given for those with experience with federal procurement policies and procedures.

Knowledge:

  • Principles and methods of negotiation.
  • Applicable state and federal laws and regulations governing purchasing activities.

Skills:

  • Methods of conducting product and vendor research.
  • Analyzing and evaluating purchase requisitions, specifications, price quotes and other purchasing-related documents.
  • Problem solving with the ability to thoroughly think through and evaluate alternatives, innovative problem resolution, pro-active approach, and initiative to resolve problems.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Microsoft Office software proficiency at an intermediate level in all of the following: Windows, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Computerized inventory or purchasing system (JD Edwards preferred).

Abilities:

  • Manage workload effectively including adapting to changes, planning, organizing and prioritizing work with little direction and supervision.
  • Work with accuracy paying close attention to details, using tact, discretion and diplomacy in dealing with suppliers and vendors.
  • Establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with staff, vendors and others.
  • Must possess ethics and integrity having perceived fairness, tolerance, honesty; consistent in application of policies and procedures

Pay Range: $62,500.00 or more depending on experience.
