State of Utah - Jobs Project Development Controls Engineer in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is actively seeking a highly qualified individual with strong project management and leadership skills to assume the role of Project Development Controls Engineer (Engineering Manager II) with the Project Development Division.  The Project Development Controls Engineer is a professional engineer responsible to support and provide direction in several areas of Project Development.  Project Development has several major initiatives in progress - construction training program,digital delivery,document control and manual updates, and the business systems modernization project.  This position will support these initiatives.   Principle Duties:

  • Contract reviews,recommendations,and approvals
  • Manage project development contracts
  • Establish processes and procedures for project development document control
  • Define and implement process improvements
  • Analyze data and make recommendations and reports
  • Assist divisions with manuals 
  • Provide project management support and training 
  • Work with civil rights on compliance requirements
  • Coordinate with other discipline areas within the department 
  • Support project teams with design and construction needs 
  • Understand technical design and construction requirements
  • Review and write technical documents 
  • Coordinate and/or acts as a liaison between agency or work unit and other agencies,work units,organizations,suppliers,etc.
  • Coordinate program activities,services,and/or program implementation with private providers,other governmental entities,program users,etc.

The Ideal Candidate The best qualified person:

  • Must be registered as a professional engineer (PE) in Utah.
  • Will have at least four years of engineering experience following licensure as a PE.
  • Will have strong project management,leadership,facilitation,and organization skills.
  • Will have excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build relationships and effectively engage with stakeholders.
  • Have a strong technical understanding of project delivery and the ability to review and write technical documents.

  • Working Conditions - Risks found in the typical office setting,which is adequately lighted,heated and ventilated,e.g.,safe use of office equipment,avoiding trips and falls,observing fire regulations,etc.
  • Physical Requirements - Typically,the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however,there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile,etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
  • Employee may be reassigned to a different location as deemed necessary by the Region Director/Group Leader.
