Linux System Administrator
Location:Washington, D.C.
Job Description:EvoTech, LLC is seeking a Linux System Administrator for a position in the Washington, D.C. area. The candidate must demonstrate an ability to proactively manage systems and mitigate issues before they become problems. They will work in a production and real-time processing environment that includes changing security requirements over time. This position is remote. Successful outcome of a background check and E-Verify is required.
Responsibilities:
Build, configure, and update 100+ Linux servers in vSphere monthly.
Tests servers functionality to make sure it meets customers needs.
Responsible for working on a team and being one of the primary points of contact for over 1,000 users.
Clone servers for customers using templates in vCenter.
Use superb communication skills to train, troubleshoot, and assist customers and colleagues with server issues via Microsoft Teams Video Conferencing.
Manage server infrastructures across Linux platforms.
Maintain backups, monthly patches, file restores, disaster recovery, automation, filesystem housekeeping, and system security management for 4000+ servers in VMware.
Create and maintain Red Hat 7 and 8, Oracle 6 and 7 Linux servers and Windows 10, Windows Server 2016, 2019 and 2022.
Write comprehensive SOPs on building and troubleshooting Linux virtual machines.
Assist users with account issues using Active Directory.
Serve as a point of contact to troubleshoot a 2,000+ server environment within vSphere ensuring 100% uptime.
- At least five years experience with Linux administration, particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux or its derivatives.
- Experience setting up Network File Sharing (NFS) servers and clients.
- Experience setting up webservers.
- Experience troubleshooting network connection issues.
- A working knowledge of firewall configuration.
- Ability to install and configure open source and third-party software.
- Knowledge of systems backup and restoration.
- Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and methodical.
- Initiative and experience in managing projects independently.
- Excellent communications skills, written and verbal, including the ability to discern the intent of requests and offer informed recommendations.
- Evidence of learning new packages and processes quickly and accurately (continuous learner).
- Experience with Red Hat, Oracle, and vSphere.
- Experience with Active Directory.
- US Citizenship is required.
- Knowledge of high availability and fault tolerant environments.
- Experience implementing government networking and operating system security controls.
- The ability to adapt to changing security requirements and their impact on workflows.
- Experience with open-source packages.
- Basic competence with Git and Puppet, or similar source and system management tools
- Demonstrated ability to document workflows or data flows.
- Experience in testing configuration and software changes in a development environment.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
