Google Senior Developer Relations Engineer, Google Cloud in San Francisco, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5 years of experience in coding in one or more general purpose languages (e.g., Java, Python, Node.js, or Go).

  • 3 years of experience as a technical practitioner in a developer community.

  • Experience with open source tooling, continuous integration, and testing in one or more general purpose languages (e.g., Java, Python, Node.js, or Go).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience speaking at technology conferences, blogging/writing technical articles with an existing follower base, or contributing to popular open source projects.

  • Ability to take ownership of solutions and exert influence without authority.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the desire to share technical knowledge and information with others.

Part community manager and part developer advocate, Developer Programs Engineers collaborate with developers at conferences and online, and advocate for developers interests internally at Google. Not afraid to be hands-on, you write sample code and client libraries as well as participate in developer forums and support queues to troubleshoot and debug coding problems developers encounter. Internally, you work with product engineering teams improve our products by conveying feedback from developers, reviewing API designs and testing new features. Chrome, Android, App Engine, HTML5 as well as our core Google Apps and Ads APIs are just some of the platforms you promote and support.

With your technical expertise, you drive strategy around fostering a community of developers who work with Google technologies. An ardent advocate for these developers, you represent their voice internally to our Product Managers and serve as their Google support in application development and technology implementation.

In the Google Cloud Developer Relations Engineering (Cloud DevRel) team, we build and support the platform that powers an experience so that Google Cloud can organize and grow the samples catalog and help developers succeed at scale. We create and maintain the multi-product recommended practices and patterns for solving developer problems.The US base salary range for this full-time position is $142,000-$211,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Redesign or refactor code or systems to address technical debt, improve readability, and more easily facilitate future improvements to promote a healthy and sustainable samples ecosystem.

  • Identify opportunities of adoption of Google Cloud technologies to improve and scale the work.

  • Develop and publish technical content that teaches practitioners how to solve the problems of development workflow, development operations and observability through code samples, demo applications, written tutorials, interactive tutorials, blog posts, and social media.

  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).

  • Work with product and developing teams to define strategies, craft narratives, and align OKRs and roadmaps across teams around new products and features.
