About the Role

Uber's Marketplace organization is tasked with designing pricing and dispatch algorithms to improve marketplace efficiency. We try to balance the needs of riders and earners on our platform and are responsible for growing the business by improving our users' experiences while achieving the company's financial goals. We build optimization algorithms, ML models, and the scalable systems that serve them across hundreds of markets globally.

The Session Value team is a new effort within Marketplace to help create a central mechanism to score our decisions incorporating both short-term and long-term effects on our riders and earners. Put differently, the team is responsible for defining a central marketplace objective that will then be optimized for across all Marketplace systems and as such will help decide the direction for the entire marketplace.

The team is a mix of experienced engineers and scientists with diverse backgrounds (such as Economics, ML and Operations Research) focused on understanding complex marketplace dynamics and user behavior.

You will be working to explore our vast datasets to better understand user behavior in order to help design measurement experiments and design causal models to inform objectives across all marketplace optimization systems. Given the cross-functional nature of the project, your work will be influencing Uber's top and bottom line and have a real tangible impact on customer experience. As an early member of the team, you will have the opportunity to define the direction of the product and deliver great impact.
