Sarasota County Government Water Operations Manager in Sarasota, Florida

Are you looking for a management opportunity in Sarasota County’s Water Utility Department? We need your help to create wonderful experiences for residents and vacationing guests navigating Sarasota.

Be responsible for the delivery of major community outcomes including, but not limited to the sustainable water supply system, surface and groundwater protection/enhancement, protection of public health and the maintenance and enhancement of existing public infrastructure.

Provide oversight to Sarasota County's water utility system, which includes: operations, planning, organizational and financial management. In this role you'll also have responsibility for the delivery of major community outcomes related to sustainable water supply system, surface and groundwater protection/enhancement, protection of public health and the maintenance and enhancement of existing public infrastructure.

Direct the operation and maintenance responsibilities of the Water Utility:

  • Operate an effective and efficient potable water system.

  • Deliver efficient, cost-effective county potable water services.

  • Deliver potable water services in a sustainable, flexible, and responsive fashion.

Also, direct the development and implementation of the Potable Water Repair and Replacement program including financial, engineering, and construction activities.

On behalf of the Director, serve as a technical advisor representing proposed capital improvement projects (CIP) for Potable Water which includes the proposed initial project design, the coordination and review of the draft of the scope of services to achieve a preliminary design report for a proposed CIP, the coordination of the review of proposed construction plans generally through 30% of project design, the provision of fieldwork expertise, as needed, and administration support of contracts for the approved CIP associated with the potable water. The services above include coordination on an as-needed basis with the following departments: Planning & Development Services, Administrative Services, Health and Human Services, Emergency Services, and Community Services.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public or Business Administration, Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a related field AND six (6) years of related experience

  • -OR- Master’s Degree in above areas with four (4) or more years of related experience.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • May consider substituting years of experience for the four (4) year degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Registered with the State of Florida Board of Professional Engineers.

  • Advanced professional certification.

    Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of five (5) years.

About Everything Else

Starting Pay: $90,000.00 - $101,000.00/year, based on your experience

Full Pay Range (future earning potential): $81,952.00 - $139,276.80/year
