Job Overview :

The Maintenance Assistant is under the direction and guidance of maintenance mechanics, and helps repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment such as hydraulics, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs preventative maintenance functions such as checking oil/fluid levels, replacing filters and screens, cleaning equipment and lubricating equipment. Logs preventative maintenance activity in preventative maintenance program records.

  • Reads work orders and sees that jobs are performed per work order. Asks questions if work order is not clear.

  • Understand and can operate equipment to determine problems by listening and observing equipment operation. Makes required adjustments and repairs to parts and instrumentation. Provides operators with information, guidance, and advice regarding equipment operation.

  • Determines problems with equipment by observation discussing problems or working with maintenance mechanic. Dismantles equipment, diagnoses problems by inspecting parts, reassembles equipment, and cleans.

  • Installs special functional and structural parts or devices.

  • Sets up and operates drill press, grinder, hand tools and metal working tools to make and repair parts and equipment.

  • May perform building grounds tasks such as mowing grass, shoveling snow and weeding flower beds. May perform building maintenance such as emptying trash, changing light bulbs, painting walls and other cleaning related activities.

  • Understands plant labeling requirements and sees that all chemicals are properly labeled and managed.

  • Recommend measures to improve equipment performance and maintenance activities.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

    Qualifications :

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)• Prior technical school education preferred and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.• Must have competent skills using a variety of tools.• Able to work in a team environment and take direction.

Physical demands and work environment:

• Frequently required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl• Ability to lift/push/carry items up to 50 pounds • Frequently exposure to cold and hot conditions (non-climate controlled)• Frequently work near moving mechanical parts • Continually work around chemicals

Pay: $20.33 - 23.92 / hour
