Position Purpose:

Performs duties required to prepare operate an incinerator control console and feed hazardous waste solids, liquids, and cylinders to the incinerator in a safe manner at maximum throughput, while ensuring compliance with all EPA, State of Illinois and company regulations.

Primary Duties/responsibilities:

  • Operates incinerator process to facilitate charging of solids and liquids, feeding solids by conveyor and clamshell and hooking up liquid feeder drums as required.

  • Follows daily "burn plan" and reports any problems or discrepancies in plan.

  • Keys through console screens and observes monitors to trouble-shoot actual or potential problems.

  • Communicates with other members of the shift crew to maintain continuous operation of incinerator, making required adjustments to process various combinations of materials safely and efficiently.

  • Hooks-up and unhooks direct liquid-injection tankers as required.

  • Unload materials into bulk-pits and operates backhoe to mix, prepare and sample materials for kiln charge loading process; operates clam-shell loader to charge kiln as required.

  • Changes out defective flow meters and/or thermocouples, as may be required to maintain incinerator operation.

  • Ensure all paperwork (automated as well as required log and written reports) is complete and correct.

  • Moves waste ash hoppers and dumps into roll-off containers, cleans area around incinerator.

  • Changes out end-dumps with tractor and moves out roll-offs as required.

  • Cleans out incinerator housing and changes atomizer; changes bags in bag-house filtration system as required.

  • Operates jack-hammer to clean incinerator chamber walls and/or ash-pits at maintenance shutdowns.

  • Maintains a safe, neat, clean, well organized work area; monitors for any spills or leaks or potential fire hazards and arranges for clean-up where required.

  • Follows all written, policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background:

  • High School diploma or GED required

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate through reading and writing

  • Computerized console, forklift, manlift, backhoe, clam shell loader, heavy truck

Required Certification / Licenses / Training:

  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER training preferred
