Meta Product Design Engineer, Reality Labs in Seattle, Washington

Summary:

At Reality Labs we aim to bring together the brightest cross-disciplinary minds in one place to deliver on our mission: build tools that help people feel connected, anytime, anywhere. As a Product Design Engineer, you will take a critical role in developing Systems for VR, AR, or New Technology Initiatives. You will become part of a team exploring developing concepts through prototyping and into mass-production consumer electronics. You will work as part of a cross functional team requiring collaboration and curiosity in domains other than mechanical engineering. Our ideal candidate has strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, prototyping skills, CAD fluency, manufacturing process knowledge, and experience designing consumer electronics.

Required Skills:

Product Design Engineer, Reality Labs Responsibilities:

  1. Lead complex mechanical solutions as a member of a multi disciplinary team

  2. Model, build, test, and refine prototypes and characterization test systems

  3. Work across the full product development cycle, from concept inception to shipping product

  4. Leverage external teams (CM/JDM/Vendors) to maximize the focus of our internal resources on adding value and differentiation to our products

  5. Push state-of-the-art technologies and approaches to solving complex mechanical problems

  6. Ability to travel to external vendors up to 20%

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. BS in Mechanical Engineering

  2. 5+ years of industry experience in mechanical design

  3. Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, geometric tolerancing, and 3D/2D CAD

  4. Working knowledge in material properties, such as plastics, metal, adhesive, glass, etc.

  5. Testing and analysis experience (FEA, Simulation, Design of Experiments, etc.)

  6. Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing techniques (stamping, machining, injection molding, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. 7+ years of product design and development experience of handheld and/or wearable electronics for high volume manufacturing, including full systems ownership

  2. MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering

  3. Experience designing handheld and wearable electronics for high volume manufacturing

  4. Experience with NX

  5. Experience with products cosmetic surface treatments and interfacing with industrial design teams

  6. Mandarin and/or Cantonese language skills

  7. Experience designing for human factors

Public Compensation:

$170,000/year to $240,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
