UW Medicine Accounting has an outstanding opportunity for a UW Medicine Program Financial Analyst Work Schedule

  • Mon - Fri DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Program Financial Analyst is responsible for the daily accounting, reporting and analysis for fixed assets, both construction projects and equipment, for UW Medical Center “UWMC” and UW Medicine Shared Services “UWMSS”.

The Program Financial Analyst will be responsible for the analytical work that underlies the production and review of the hospital and shared services financial statements as they pertain to fixed assets and the depreciation of such assets. The Program Financial Analyst will also be responsible for analyzing, documenting and correcting problems associated with the recording and reporting of these fixed assets. Complexity arises from the continued work across UWM to integrate and consolidate clinical and administrative systems, processes, and resources. Chief among these initiatives is the stabilization of the newly implemented Workday Financial System, where this individual will play a role in the reconciliation of current year catch-up transactions, capitalization of assets, as well as design and deployment of future state fixed asset, practices, and processes.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Requires in-depth knowledge of the equipment purchases across the Health System entities. In addition, a critical understanding of the timing and nature of significant transactions affecting fixed assets is necessary, in order to support reliable accounting, reporting and analysis.

  • A comprehensive knowledge of health system financial data and data structures as well as keen understanding of how data is used and needs to be used in financial reporting processes and financial functions is key to being successful in this position.

  • Organizational and collaborative skills are needed to make the best use of time and resources to respond to requests timely and address issues effectively with the various stakeholders. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Capitalization, depreciation and related accounting entries

  • Prepares all calculations and general ledger entries related to capital including depreciation, retirements, salvage value or other entries

  • Assures entries are consistent with GAAP, GASB and other relevant policies and guidelines. Develops/revises and communicates accounting related capital policies and procedures as necessary

  • Prepares monthly reconciliations and reconciles against the asset accounting and general ledger Workday financial accounting system

  • Maintains the UWMC and UWMSS assets on the UWM Workday asset accounting system

  • Prepares asset documentation including total cost and useful life and enters this information into the asset accounting system

  • Prepares asset retirement documentation as required Capital Reporting

  • Prepares, analyzes and distributes capital reports for use by accounting, hospital administrators, finance and auditors Equipment and Construction Project Tracking/Accounting

  • Designs and develops spreadsheets to monitor UWMC and UWMSS Equipment purchases and Construction projects

  • Works closely with UW Medicine Finance, UW Medicine Supply Chain Management and University Capital Accounting on issues

  • Assures the integrity and accuracy of these Workday reports and reconciliations REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field

  • 4-6 years of experience in accounting operations, including month-end close

  • Highly organized; demonstrated ability to run a process involving multiple stakeholders across a wide range of disciplines, ensuring adherence to policies around approvals, testing, documentation and communication

  • Demonstrated ability to delve into new subject areas and quickly understand the fundamentals

  • Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities

  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of reliability, accuracy and productivity, navigating any reporting data domain or subject areaOR
