Responsibilities

What you'll do

Wieland currently has an immediate opportunity for a Furnace/Caster Operators to monitor the process of refining and casting copper. They are responsible for the charging, melting, refining and casting processes including temperature controls, sampling of metal, monitoring of fume treatment system, runway preparation, and controlling and monitoring the casting of molten copper into solid ingot form.

This role will be located at Wieland Recycling - Shelbyville in Shelbyville, KY. This facility is currently under construction and is expected to be fully operational by the Fall. The initial schedule for this role will be 8-10 hour shifts from Monday - Friday. The Recycling facility will progress to be a 24/7 operation - so this person must be willing and able to work twelve (12) hour shifts, to include nights, weekends, holidays and overtime in late 2023 onward.

The ideal candidate will have previous foundry experience working with molten metals.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the charging of scrap materials into furnace and monitoring of temperatures to melt scrap
  • Responsible for the slagging and sampling of molten copper
  • Responsible for the safe operation of the furnace and auxiliary equipment by following the standard operating procedures to meet the daily production requirements
  • Responsible for the setup, preheating and casting of molten metal to produce a finished ingot
  • Controls pouring station in which molten copper is cast into ingots
  • Regulates flow of molten metal directly from refining furnace into troughs feeding casting unit.
  • Observe and follow all environmental, health, and safety procedures
  • Follow standard operation procedures, and all departmental procedures
  • Operate support equipment such as Cranes, Forklifts, Skid Steers, Power Tools and etc.
  • Learn and perform Equipment Preventative Maintenance
  • Support operation of facilities equipment such as cooling water system, off gas treatment system, condensate recovery, process gasses, etc.
  • Complete tasks as assigned by your management team
  • Assist other personnel as necessary
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Be able to handle levels of stress associated with the position at all times
  • Comply with all other company policies and procedures
Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with heavy equipment operation
  • A quick learner, ability to work with little to no supervision
  • Safely and efficiently performs all essential functions of the job
  • Superior cognitive and systems knowledge to achieve production goals
  • Develop and maintain accurate written records
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal job instructions
  • Proficient in mathematics and measurement
  • Strong leadership abilities as demonstrated with past work experience or activities
  • Basic knowledge of (or ability to learn) Microsoft Office; Excel, Word, and Outlook
