Trinity Health Certified Nursing Assistant - 6 East, Acute Neuro in Silver Spring, Maryland

Description:

This 30-bed unit provides care to patients with complex needs, particularly respiratory and renal problems, that require cardiac telemetry monitoring and/or mechanical ventilator support. 3 South Acute/IMCU is staffed by registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, health unit coordinators, and monitor technicians. Staff receive support from clinical educators and advanced practice nurses.

Together team model shifts responsibility to a 3 person-team. (bedside RN, partner CNA) and virtual RN.

Model brings added patient safety, expertise, and mentoring to bed side and leverages technology.

General Summary:

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) may be assigned to function in either the Health Unit Coordinator or Nursing Assistant role. When functioning in the Nursing Assistant role, the CNA works under the delegated authority of a registered nurse to perform a nursing function within their scope of practice and assist the nurse in collecting data for a nursing assessment under the supervision of a nurse. The CNA provides quality nursing care to patients; implements specific procedures and programs; coordinates work within the department, as well as with other departments; reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor; responds to inquiries or requests for information; and assists the immediate supervisor with tasks to support department operations.

This job description, performance appraisal and competency assessment applies to all Certified Nursing Assistants who have successfully met performance expectations for the CNA. The employee supports the Mission of CHE Trinity Health and Holy Cross Hospital.

Minimum licensure/certification required (if applicable):

Certification as a nursing assistant by the Maryland Board of Nursing

High school diploma

BLS certification

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

Current knowledge of nursing skills within their scope of practice. Computer and audiovisual skills using various applications and technologies: Internet, email, word processing, wireless phone, pager. Ability to obtain and retrieve data. Effectively read, speak, write, compose and comprehend English. Effective eye and hand coordination. Effective problem-solving skills. Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize. Ability to work well with individuals and groups.

Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements : Ability to lift patients/patient care equipment up to 35 pounds. Must be able to push, pull, and move patients and patient care equipment. Must be able to bend body downward at the waist and be able to kneel. Must be able to utilize a computer for periods of time throughout the shift.

Visual Acuity : The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly at distances close to the eyes; discern and distinguish colors.

Auditory Acuity: Must have sufficient acuity to identify auditory alarms in noisy environments.

Environmental Conditions : The worker is subject to hazards associated with a hospital environment.
