Consulting Engineer - Substation Civil Engineering As a member of the substation engineering design team at Puget Sound Energy, you'll contribute to vital projects that power our communities and support the escalating demand for green energy across Western Washington, all while growing your expertise and advancing your career as a Consulting Civil Engineer. This position requires having substantial experience with developing civil permit and construction drawings for grading and fencing plans, storm drainage, erosion control and other civil related aspects of electrical substations and natural gas facilities, both new and existing.Working understanding of current state and local storm water regulations, building codes and industry standards is essential. Must be well experienced in civil related calculations, reports, technical specifications and cost estimates; and supporting the permitting and construction phases of projects. Additionally, it is helpful if the candidate has structural engineering experience as it relates towards design of reinforced concrete foundations and steel structures for electrical and natural gas equipment and facilities. They must also be able to make site assessments of existing and proposed facilities providing an overview that identifies risks, challenges, and opportunities when requested. Basic understanding of electrical substation physical and safe design practices is essential. The Engineer as consultant to department engineering staff shall possess a broad range of experience, expertise and/or understanding of civil and structural engineering topics especially related to substation design and construction. Should have the flexibility to deal with shifting budgets and priorities; the ability and resiliency to adapt to changes; and a personality that promotes optimism and synergy. Shall possess the QA/QC experience and judgement to quickly review drawings and other engineering deliverables for accuracy, clarity and consistency; and to promote safe, practical, and constructible designs. May provide technical advice and counsel to supervisor on technical issues and is expected to provide training, technical direction, and leadership to other engineering positions in order to promote development. The consulting engineer will promote the civil/structural group as an engineering resource for all the company. As such, the ability to communicate effectively, clearly and concisely, both verbally and written to diverse audiences in any setting is essential. Supports emergency response operations when needed. Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE's operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.
