Job Description

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for generating and implementing programs to remediate behavioral and social issues for students eligible for special educational programs involving specifically, (mental retardation, developmental delay, or autism), and these programs also include availability for consultation to school personnel and parent(s) of these specific students.

Physical Demands: Must be able to:

  1. Life and carry up to 50 pounds.

  2. Stand, walk, kneel and reach while working with students for approximately 80-90% of the day.

  3. Use the full range of body motion including handling and physically restraining students when necessary.

  4. Perform First Aid and CPR.

  5. Key at a computer, review reports containing data with small print, read and write proficiently in English, and speak clearly. Hearing and vision must be sufficient to perform the essential job functions.

Qualifications

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  1. Planning:
  2. Assist in designing programs for these student(s) that are consistent with the total educational philosophy, and the student(s) present goals and objectives.
  3. Continuing professional growth through educational professional growth, visiting related facilities, reading professional growth literature, and exchanging ideas among the current staff.
  4. Working in coordination with other teachers and administration in planning and developing individualized programs.
  5. Working as a team member in the development and implementation of alternative educational and behavioral programs.

  6. Providing Services to Students:

  7. Participating as a team member in the identification of social/behavioral issues.
  8. Designing, implementing, and following up on behavioral management programs for student(s) to remediate behavioral and social issues.
  9. Participating as a team member in the development of the individual educational programs.
  10. Participating as a team member in the evaluation of student progress.
  11. Developing and maintaining psychosocial and behavioral data on these student(s).
  12. Assisting other professionals with student crisis intervention.

``` 3. Providing Services to Teacher(s): 4. Planning and conferring with classroom teacher(s) of these students as requested, concerning any behavioral, social, or educational issues affecting the student(s). 5. Developing and conducting in-service activities regarding techniques for remediating behavioral, social, or educational issues of student(s). 6. Assisting the teacher(s) of these students with the development of crisis prevention plans. 7. Attending professional training for the programs in the areas of behavioral management skills, affective education, along with other specific training directly related to providing effective services to these student(s).

``` 4. Providing Services to Parent(s): 5. Coordinating and conducting approved individual parent collaboration sessions with the parent(s) of these student(s). 6. Assisting as a team member to the parent(s) in locating and obtaining community resources which are available to these student(s) and their families. 7. Updating and maintaining information concerning parental collaboration. 8. Assisting in developing and maintaining home-school relations in crisis situations with these student(s) served.

``` 5. Reporting Data 6. Assisting as a team member in the development and implementation of reporting present conditions to parents. 7. Assisting as a team member in completion of reports to be provided to local and state educational agencies. 8. Participating as a team member in referring those student(s) who require further evaluation or follow-up services to the appropriate personnel, professionals, or agencies.

``` 6. Other Responsibili ies: 7. Assisting as a team member with the development and maintenance of program evaluation procedures. 8. Assisting as a team member in case-management and team crisis implementation with other behavioral specialist, agency personnel, or other appropriate educational personnel, or community agencies providing appropriate approved services on a regular basis.
