JOB SUMMARY At MMT CATHTIP, our objective is to develop excellence in automation, machine design, material handling, and custom tooling. Each position contributes to the success of the company through accountability, responsiveness, and a solutions-oriented mindset. The Machinist II will be responsible for preparing raw materials according to Machine Shop needs as well as operating various machine tools, including but not limited to: band saws, manual lathes, manual mills, grinders and CNC machines, including preventative machine maintenance regarding manufacturing of all products. Further, The Machinist II will be responsible to participate in Research and Development activities for new products, and to lead and participate in Machine Shop and Production activities. JOB DUTIES Essential Job Functions : Set up and operate Sinker EDM equipment to shape dies, punches, and other components. Interpret blueprints, CAD designs, and specifications to determine machining requirements. Create electrode sinkers using CNC programming and manual milling. Inspect and measure finished components to ensure they meet quality standards. Make necessary adjustments to the EDM machine to achieve precise measurements. Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on EDM equipment. Set-up, edit programming and operate manual and CNC lathes and mills. Review and maintain stock levels of all required tooling (drills, inserts, etc.) Maintain all documentation and follow procedures and specifications. Assist in testing new products and procedures. Ability to cross train co-workers in job functions as necessary Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area. Participate in Continuous Improvement and Research & Development projects Collaborate with engineering and design teams to optimize the machining process. Perform all other duties as needed to assist the company in attaining its objectives. SKILLS Ability to Read, Interpret, and Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Ability to calculate dimensions and tolerances utilizing micrometers, calipers, bore gages, and other measuring devices. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and some trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to effectively to understand and communicate in both written and verbal form using the English Language. Able to use a computer for job data entry (efficiency in Microsoft Office is a plus, but not required) . Able to function in a dynamic, fast paced, environment. Willingness to work individually and/or in a team environment. Ability to read and interpret 2-D part drawings and recognize all critical dimensions. Ability to troubleshoot machining issues. Possess a mechanical aptitude for basic machining processes. Possess strong knowledge in Basic Machine Shop Practice & Measurement Methods. Ability to write basic CNC Lathe and/or Mill Programs. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to gain the respect and confidence of other team members. Have a high level of energy, positive attitude, and possess a selfless attitude for the benefit of MMT Cathtip. Must possess a broad outlook about MMT Cathtip and the profession. Must contribute to MMT Cathtip and the profession in a meaningful, substantive way. Analytical thinking and systematic approach to problem solving. QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE – 5+ years of CNC Machine Operation and/or Tooling Experience EDUCATION – High School Diploma or GED is required. CNC Programming Course, AA or AS degree or equivalent in Machine Shop training is preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position consists of approximately 80% standing, 10% walking, and 10% sitting in the course of operating machines in the Machine Shop. Above 40 lbs. requires assistance. Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions (non-weather) Occasionally work near moving mechanical parts WORKING CONDITIONS This position will require the ability to work under pressing conditions in a professional and responsive manner.
