Job Description

Maintenance Mechanic II - 1st Shift - St Joseph, MO

NATURE OF WORK

Responsible for providing mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, HVAC, on plant equipment and general maintenance. Also, responsible for repair, calibration, and installation of electrical instrumentation, control devices or systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure operation of company equipment including electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, control devices, HVAC, for building and equipment.

  • Able to perform all emergency routine repairs and scheduled inspections of plant equipment. This is to include trouble shooting, disassembly and repair, organization and work area cleanup, proper cleaning, and sanitation of all processing equipment, following the guidelines and procedures set up by GMP.

  • Ability to establish regular interaction with Maintenance Manager, Plant Engineer, Production Personnel, Sr. Production Lead and Sanitation to keep downtime of production to a minimum.

  • Must understand and follow all plant policies regarding safety/emergency, lock out/tag out, confined spaces, hot work, maintenance, sanitation, and current procedures designed for the department.

  • Must possess and exhibit good verbal communication skills to communicate with all departments and coworkers to alert management of potential problems or needs to ensure proper continuous operations.

  • Must understand and follow procedures of the department for the proper use of the department's equipment.

  • Adhere to all quality systems & safety procedures including HAACP, Food Safety, & OSHA regulations, philosophy, and procedures in everyday work routine.

  • Make recommendations for capital improvements and projects and assist in justification.

  • Operate powered industrial equipment in a safe manner.

  • Must possess organizational and computer skills and follow routine maintenance schedules on all equipment. This will include completing and closing of work orders, upon task completion, entering work orders for emergency downtime work, issuing out MRO parts once consumed on a PM or repair.

  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

  • Compliance with applicable company policies concerning maintaining a drug free workplace is required.

  • Diligently following all company policies is required.

  • Other functions as required (nonessential functions).

  • Responsible for adherence to all quality systems including ISO 14001 and Food Safety with an understanding of Danisco’s Quality Policy and procedures.

Job Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

To successfully perform the requirements of this position, the incumbent must possess a high school or equivalent education. Must have a minimum of 5 years’ production and/or maintenance experience in a production dry blending operation. A minimum of three years' previous plant maintenance experience is a plus. Must possess strong troubleshooting ability on production equipment and electrical panels. The ability to work independently, strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are required.

SCOPE OF POSITION:

This position reports directly to the Maintenance Manager and has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Decisions may be made on how to perform assigned work orders most efficiently and effectively. Typical duties require troubleshooting, repair, and performance of work orders to meet set deadlines. Incumbent must be able to work overtime as needed. Must be trained & certified to operate all plant mobile equipment.

position at any time.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position operates in a production/plant environment 100 percent of the time. Exposure to hazardous materials training is a requirement. Proper clothing is also required. Operation of powered industrial equipment is required. Must wear safety clothing, safety glasses, and protective mask when required.
