This position exists to provide a critical link between film and TV production companies, government agencies, local crew and vendors, and the public. This position will work in collaboration with the Deputy Director of Film, providing strategic insight as it relates to the film industry development focus and opportunities and ensures full integration and cooperation across the division. This position will be responsible to manage the details of the Film Friendly Communities program from beginning to end, including developing guidelines and procedures, recruiting local representatives, and promoting the program and locations throughout the state to the industry. This position represents Explore Minnesota Film throughout the state. The Production Liaison reports to the Deputy Director, Film and works closely with employees in other state departments, the industry, and the general public.

Key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the point person for Film production planning in Minnesota.

  • Serve as liaison between industry and state stakeholders for Explore MN Film.

  • Maintain database of filming locations and contacts for potential projects.

  • Lead Film-Friendly Communities program.

  • Manage updates to Explore Minnesota Film communications channels.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with film production of motion pictures, TV shows and/or commercials.

  • Bachelor’s degree in film production, media, or a closely related field as determined by the agency may substitute one year of experience

  • Three years of experience in production of motion pictures, TV shows and/or commercials.Research skills in areas of state government legislation, economic impact, film industry production pipeline.

  • Knowledge of the policies and permit procedures of state, federal, and local agencies as they pertain to filming.

  • Demonstrated ability to determine the best method to proceed with requests for information, many of which are non-routine and requested information is not readily available.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of staff, clients, and the public; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to recognize sensitive issues and to handle and deflect problems when dealing with film industry personnel, federal, state, and local government agencies, the media, tourism industry personnel, crew members, and production services suppliers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiar with industry unions, guilds and associations and basic industry terminology and protocols recommended.

  • Ability to work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholder to obtain information to support project development and maintenance.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize workload in light of overall strategic goals.

  • Ability to remain flexible and cope with change.
