Google Staff Software Engineer, Embedded Systems/Networking in Sunnyvale, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.

  • 5 years of experience with one or more general purpose programming languages (e.g., C)

  • 5 years of experience working on embedded systems/networking

  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.

  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, and/or cross-business projects.

  • Knowledge of Linux User Space Development and Kernel Space Development

  • Networking (L2/L3/ACLprotocol layers) and SDN knowledge is preferred not required.

  • Interested in learning about Google's data centers, and developing software for network switches.

With many renowned engineers, the team works on projects across all levels of the technology stack and drives cutting-edge innovation at a huge scale. With your technical expertise you manage individual projects priorities, deadlines and deliverables. You design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions. In this role, you'll work on networking software to deliver Google's next generation networks. You will be building software for distributed services, abstractions, and the components of the system that operates and powers the world's largest network infrastructure, from data center fabrics, to wide area networks, to the peering edge of our infrastructure

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$284,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects.

  • Influence and coach a distributed team of engineers.

  • Develop and maintain system software for Google switches. Design and build software for next generation switch and fabric.

  • Manage scalability and performance tuning of large scale networks.

  • Work with cross-functional teams in improving switch availability and software quality.
