BloombergNEF (BNEF) is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our strategy and special projects group on a 6 month contract. You will have a genuine passion for the energy transition and yearn to be at the forefront of this exciting space. You are a strategic problem solver that enjoys learning quickly, naturally forms original opinions, and enjoys communicating these to your audience via robust, defendable and well-structured analysis. You will have strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills along with a particular interest in solving problems and critically analysing complex subjects.

Working directly with our Head of Strategy, you will be responsible for undertaking market research and strategic analysis on topics that are at the cutting edge of the energy transition. Your initial focus will be on the physical risks of climate change. You will help to research, scope and then implement a project on this topic, with the ultimate aim of producing reports, presentations and tools that shed new light on this important problem.

We will trust you to:

  • Undertake primary and secondary research to build an understanding of new areas of climate change mitigation and adaptation. The initial focus will be on physical risk analysis and modelling

  • Conduct market research to understand the competitive landscape of service and analysis providers and conduct interviews with our clients to understand their research and analysis needs

  • Think strategically and creatively to identify where there are unmet and perhaps unknown needs in the market and help develop plans for how we can meet these

  • Effectively communicate findings and present your analysis internally and externally in small and large settings

  • Manage projects and coordinate contributions from internal team members and external vendors

  • If required, go deeper on your research to become an expert on a particular topic and produce thought leading written and quantitative research

  • Collaborate with the rest of the team and your colleagues around the world to connect the dots between the many aspects of the energy transition

  • Act as a self-starter, have a high work-rate and have the ability to work on parallel tasks while maintaining attention to detail

You’ll need to have:

  • A degree or equivalent experience in an analytical field, such as science, mathematics, engineering, economics or finance with excellent academic results

  • A strong interest in efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change

  • A good understanding of economics, finance and business

  • Strong quantitative skills and experience creating spreadsheets and models

  • Strong communication skills in English: writing (for research reports), reading (to conduct research) and speaking (for presentations at conferences, to clients, or to the media)

  • Rigorous attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work

  • A desire to learn quickly, solve problems, think creatively and exchange knowledge and ideas

  • Willingness to form and voice an analytical opinion on policy, technology, economics and company strategy

We'd love to see:

  • 3-5 years of work experience in management or strategy consulting; or experience in the energy, finance, insurance or commodities industries

  • Post graduate qualifications in business

  • Knowledge of climate science and the physical impacts of climate change

  • Foreign language skills
