The Centers at St. Camillus Light Housekeeper in Syracuse, New York

Education and Experience

Prior experience helpful, but not required.

All employees are expected to perform any work that is needed as determined by a supervisor or manager. This position primarily involves the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Cleans all areas and rooms assigned.
  2. Dusts and polishes furniture.
  3. Cleans windows, window sills, and mirrors.
  4. Assembles cleaning supplies and equipment on carts.
  5. Replenishes soap, towels, toilet tissue and other disposable items.
  6. Reports any mechanical failure or safety hazard.
  7. Cleans sinks, toilets, and tiles in assigned areas.
  8. Gathers and empties trash.
  9. Disinfects and deodorizes areas assigned.
  10. Cleans and maintains an orderly utility room.
  11. Carries department phones as needed
  12. Shovels or snow blows sidewalks as needed or assigned and all areas maintained by Environmental Services.
  13. Will cover routines as needed and by priority as assigned by supervisor.
  14. Will train on Fire Panel System and oxygen training alarms
  15. Responsible for employee injury prevention, follows safety rules, and addresses safety issues with supervisor.
  16. All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Working Conditions

Employee understands that their position involves the following working conditions and agrees to follow all prescribed policies and procedures with respect to these conditions so as to maintain occupational health and safety:

Works in all areas of the facility. Sit, stand, bend, lift, and move frequently during working hours. Subject to frequent interruptions and may need to reprioritize activities. Involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc. Subject to emotionally upset residents, family member, etc. Subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. May perform tasks that involve exposure to resident blood/body fluids, including exposure to HIV and Hepatitis B viruses. May be required to work on weekends and holidays. May be required to work shifts other than the one for which hired.

Standards: Must be able to alternately sit, stand, and walk intermittently throughout the workday. Must be able to speak, read, and write in the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Must possess physical capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation that will enable the employee to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met, including ensuring the safety of residents. Must be able to work with ill, disabled, elderly, and, at times, emotionally upset people within the facility. Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, up to 75 pounds on an occasional basis. Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
