Role Purpose
The purpose of this position is to support the growth of Corning’s Packaging and Wafer business within the Semiconductor Technologies & Solutions division through alignment of customer technical requirements with internal capabilities while working closely with the account manager and other commercial functions. This includes supporting the execution of new business development initiatives and product line plan with operations, development, engineering, sales, and marketing organizations. The Applications Engineer also supplies the voice of the customer to the technology and development teams for new product and capability developments.
Major Responsibilities
Provide technical engineering expertise, in a commercial role, to key accounts of the semiconductor industry to support existing products as well as design-in qualification processes
Understand key technology trends, engage with key customers in the region and build relationship with the technical community
Establish the interface required for existing and new growth opportunities within the customer’s and Corning cross functional teams (materials manufacturing, finishing, coating, etc.); project and account managers; RD&E; and international sales office representatives
Prepare and provide technical presentations and responses as required. Connect technical properties and requirements to customer applications to analyze customer trends, new opportunities and recommend course of actions to enhance Corning‘s position
Identify new growth opportunities for existing and emerging applications and maximize profitability by understanding the value proposition, analyzing market segments, reviewing the competitive landscape, conducting product analysis, and supporting the development of tactical plans and strategies
Work closely with regional business development/sales manager as well as program manager and subject matter experts to support on all technical engagements with new and existing customers
Day to Day Responsibilities
Interface with peers in supply chain, operations, manufacturing, engineering, commercial technology, and sales. Provide information to these teams per internal systems
Assist regional business development/sales and program manager with technical aspects of customer relationships
Negotiate product specifications, promote standard products
Gain specification agreement with customers to design-in P&W products
Organize internal response to product quality disagreements with customers and represent the outcome to the customer
Publish detailed trip reports with clear actions and update cases as well as activities of the accounts in SFDC
Provide the customer technical interface between P&W business and assigned customers
Act as primary point of contact for customers’ technical information requests.
Provide technical assistance to the customers’ manufacturing and sales operations.
Prepare and maintain (and present as required internally and externally) technical and product related training presentations to assist customers.
Identify new product and application opportunities at customers or otherwise in the field and report back internally for assessment and development.
Proactively identify key decision makers/influencers with the customer organization (R&D, engineering, manufacturing) and build solid relationship
Travel Requirements
50%. International included. Travel to team members to drive work streams and customers for direct interface.
Experiences/Education
Bachelor of Science or equivalent in technical field
Yellow Belt Training
Lean Fundamentals
Track record of delivering results.
Broad manufacturing and engineering experiences
Project leadership (scope to implementation)
Coaching and developing junior engineers/technicians
Manufacturing Workshops (MPIW or equivalent)

Skills to communicate clearly in front of a large (perhaps unsympathetic) group, including explaining P&W technology and applications
