Tiffin Community Health Center

*Full Time: Monday - Friday 8am-4:30pm *

No Weekends/No Holidays

 

 

POSITION PURPOSE

Under general supervision in a patient centered medical home setting, the Medical Assistant provides initial patient intake, assists with direct patient care, and performs specialized medical procedures of a routine nature, as dictated by established clinical protocol.

*EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:       *HS Diploma or GED required

*REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:              *Successful completion of in-house training.

*EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:              *At least 1 year of directly related pediatric experience preferred.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • CPR - BLS (basic life support) Required
  • Ability to perform standard clinical procedures according to established protocols.
  • Ability to perform routine invasive procedures, such as HIV testing, in accordance with established clinical protocol.
  • Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
  • Ability to maintain calendars and schedule appointments.
  • Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment within established parameters.
  • Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories.
  • Knowledge of outpatient clinical administrative procedures.
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

Assists with direct patient care procedures and related tasks; assists in obtaining patient histories, takes vital signs, prepares charts, and assists with medical examinations.

Performs routine specialized procedures, such as HIV screenings, fluoride varnish application and sterile dressing changes under established protocols.

Completes patient health screenings including hearing, vision, and all CLIA waived testing.

Administers injections after appropriate training.

Administers immunizations and medications that are not controlled substances. 

Maintains stock of medical supplies as necessary.

Educates and advises patients on specified medical issues within established parameters.

Schedules and monitors patient appointments; may coordinate routine office activities and administrative functions in support of unit activities.
