Nexus Engineering Group Field Engineer - Electrical in Toledo, Ohio

Project Overview

Nexus Engineering Group supports multiple clients in the Toledo, Ohio area in the Oil & Gas, Chemicals, Energy, Manufacturing, & Renewables markets. Our teams support safe operations by providing Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management services as required by each unique facility.

Job Summary

The Field Engineer is responsible for overseeing construction operations. They ensure that their assigned scope of work is completed safely, in compliance with project specifications, on schedule, and within budget.

Supervision

The Field Engineer is responsible for providing technical and administrative direction as required to anyone operating within their scope of work including but not limited to subcontractors, craftsmen, other engineers, and client representatives. The Field Engineer reports to the General Superintendent.

Core Responsibilities

  • Performing inspections and initiating supporting documentation for all installations on an ongoing basis. 

  • Providing support to field supervision in establishing requirements for manpower, tools, equipment, and material requirements for a given work evolution.

  • Developing installation work packages for scopes of work in support of the construction schedule.

  • Preparing and tracking schedules; interfacing with the superintendents and other field engineers.

  • Tracking installed quantities and reporting weekly to Project Controls & management.

  • Preparing field material requisitions for equipment and materials, and monitoring status of purchase orders and deliveries.

  • Assisting field procurement in receipt inspection and reporting of associated equipment and materials and preventive maintenance requirements.

  • Trouble-shooting the design and resolving issues with engineering and/or fabricator using formal field documentation processes.

  • Ensuring all installations are per latest revisions of design drawings, specifications, and standards.

  • Acting as point of contact for coordination and resolution of all technical issues related to the scope of work, including initiating all formal change documentation.

  • Initiating and completing quality documentation per inspection and test plans.

  • Initiating and completing final system walk-downs, deficiency tracking, and close-out.

  • Initiating and completing as-built documentation.

  • Monitoring and reporting actual work performance compared to the project budget and schedule.

  • Defining, planning, and supervising client outages to successfully commissioning, startup, and turnover the Field Engineer’s assigned scope of work.

     

    Basic Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in all Microsoft Office products

  • Must be physically capable to conduct field inspections and participate in project walkdowns which require the following activities: standing for long periods of time, extensive walking in and around a construction site, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing ladders & stairs.

  • Basic knowledge of EPC and EPCM construction programs, technologies, means and methods.

  • Basic knowledge of supervisory functions relating to construction field activities.

  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety, Security, and Health (ESSH) and commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.

  • Experience in oil, gas, refinery, petrochemical, or power generating station construction.

    Education & Experience Requirements

  • A recognized Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is recommended but can be substituted with extensive work experience.

  • Intermediate knowledge of electrical systems, schematics, and equipment layouts.

  • Intermediate knowledge of electrical commodity and equipment installation including cable pulling, terminations, and underground direct bury cable installation.

  • Intermediate understanding of industrial power systems. Ability to read and interpret design studies including system short circuit studies, relay setting/coordination studies, load flow analysis, power system harmonics analysis, motor starting studies, arc flash hazard studies.

  • Effective communication skills crucial to presenting plans in a clear and concise manner.

  • Excellent problem-solving ability.

  • Experience managing technical services subcontracts.

  • Experience in commissioning and energizing LV, MV, and HV electrical systems.

  • Travel Requirements

This position is based out of the Maumee, Ohio office with daily travel required to client sites within the Maumee/Toledo/Oregon Ohio area. An exact map of the required coverage is available upon request.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 0700 to 1600 hrs. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
