DESCRIPTION OF WORK The Children & Youth Caseworker provides services to children and their families to help them attain a more satisfactory social, economic, emotional or physical adjustment.  You will use modern social service practices, casework philosophy, and investigation methods and practices.

The Children & Youth Caseworker will work with children and adults under trying circumstances.  You must be able to make independent decisions, plan and organize work, and understand and interpret laws and regulations.  As a Children & Youth Caseworker you will obtain essential information from children, family members, and others to identify social, economic, emotional, health, or physical problems.  You will determine eligibility for a wide variety of services based on regulations, policies, and procedures.  You will provide casework and counseling services to children and family members to aid them in achieving a more satisfactory adjustment to their specific problems or situations.  You will investigate child abuse complaints and provide protective services and support for abused or neglected children and counsel families on proper methods of care.

You will work closely with other social agencies, hospitals, clinics, courts, schools, and community resources to meet the needs of the child.  Daily work will include working on computers preparing social studies and case histories, writing letters, making reports, and keeping records.  You will be responsible for maintaining contact and visiting children placed outside the County.  You will participate in staff training, transport children and families when other transportation is not available, and have on-call responsibilities.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment. Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Hours may vary due to travel, after-hours appointments, etc. You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Towanda, Pennsylvania.

*  REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY*

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Six months of experience as a County Caseworker 1; or Successful completion of the County Social Casework Intern program; or A bachelor's degree with a social welfare major; or A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of professional social casework experience in a public or private social service agency; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.

Other Requirements: PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title. You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements: You must pass a background investigation. A conditional offer o employment will require a drug screening. This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law. Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
