About the opportunity

Materials Engineering is a department organized within Materials and Processes at GKN Aerospace Engine Systems (AES) in Trollhättan. Our main task is to support the GKN AES organization with knowledge in materials engineering, specializing in titanium alloys, superalloys, metal additive manufacturing, mechanical testing and material data analysis. We take part in commercial, military and space development projects as well as technology development programs for new materials and manufacturing processes.

We are now looking for a materials engineer with a focus on additive manufacturing. In this role, you will be coordinating matters regarding materials manufacturing and material properties in industrialization projects within the new business area, Material Solutions. You are part of a team where you work side by side with experienced process and materials engineers with deep knowledge of materials technology, materials characterization and manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

You will be part of the industrialization of additive manufacturing methods for aerospace applications. As a member of the project team, you identify the need for materials testing and establish verification plans. You coordinate and prioritize testing activities in close collaboration with our materials data engineers and test labs. You act as an expert on additively manufactured materials, internally as well as in customer relations. You participate in the evaluation of new concepts for additively manufactured products regarding material selection, manufacturing processes and inspection procedures. You will contribute to the development of the business area Material Solutions. Qualifications

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Materials Science, Solid Mechanics or Physics • Documented knowledge in Materials Science and Engineering

Experience from the following areas is preferred:

Product development and quality systems; nickel based superalloys or titanium; manufacturing processes such as additive manufacturing, welding, heat treatment or powder metallurgy; material characterization such as scanning electron microscopy, metallography, hardness, fractography or mechanical testing. We expect you to have the ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams, to take on tasks and deliver results according to agreed plans and goals. Excellent communication skills is required.
