JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Would you like to work in a creative, fast-paced environment? Do you want to innovate with open source software? Are you a self-starter who is able to work independently on projects while leading a small team of developers? If so, then the Penn State College of Earth and Mineral Sciences has a position for you! We're seeking a full-time PHP Developer (Applications Developer - Supervisor) with experience in Drupal, MySQL, jQuery, Laravel, Git, and Docker. Additional experience writing complex SQL queries, LTI, and higher education information systems is a plus.

This individual will be required to develop, document, and test new and existing software applications, participate in code reviews, maintain database-driven websites, and answer technical questions as needed. Typical work duties for this level of position include:

  • Design, develop, test, debug, ensure proper operation, implement, modify, and support new or existing application software in accordance with area standard practices.

  • Work with users to analyze their requirements.

  • Prepare test plans and write documentation; investigate data and/or program problems, determine source of problem, and take corrective action.

  • Maintain familiarity with installed software standards and procedures and evaluate other tools to determine appropriate fit into application development.

  • Lead large tasks or projects; provide supervision and technical guidance to direct reports.

    This position is either fully remote or located at the University Park campus and will be appointed to the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences Dean's Office.

    Education and Experience: This position requires a Bachelor's degree plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. We are looking for someone who can work independently as well as in a collaborative, team-based environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are essential. This is a regular appointment.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$76,700.00 - $115,100.00
