Description

Reporting to the Director of Advising and Retention, this position will assist students in selecting academic and support programs with making informed decisions concerning their educational goals, promote student success, increase student enrollment and retention by promoting and recruiting for programs, and refer students at risk or in need of additional resources to the appropriate internal and/or external providers from the student’s first semester through credential completion/graduation.

This position is grant-funded, non-classified, full-time, and benefits-eligible. Actual offer will commensurate with education and experience. This position may require travel and flexible hours. A valid driver’s license or reliable transportation is required.

Examples of Duties

  • Develop academic schedules for first-time and transfer students, including facilitating the selection of appropriate courses and completion of course registration activities.

  • Regularly contact advisee to discuss needs, caseloads, monitor academic progress, and assist with the resolution of academic and personal challenges, and connect advisees with internal and external resources to address and mitigate barriers to student success

  • Collaborates with faculty, program chairs, and academic deans in other departments regarding academic advising and early intervention for at-risk students

  • Monitor advisees’ engagement, attendance, academic progress, and support program requirements through graduation.

  • Meet with probationary students to review their academic success plan and adjust schedules as necessary.

  • Assist with Early Alert Management System, providing timely support for at-risk students.

  • Presents faculty training workshops on the Early Alert Management System Serves as a Professional Advisor within Student Services to incoming students and provides onboarding information to ensure student success

  • Maintain current information about select academic and support programs

  • Input and maintain student information and relevant data within the college’s Student Information Software (e.g. Banner), as well as in grant reporting software (e.g. AGS Prime), ensuring meticulous maintenance of student files in adherence to institutional and grant-specific requirements.

  • Cultivate collaborative relationships with faculty and staff to enhance student support

  • Contribute to student recruitment and program outreach efforts, including but not limited to orientation events, open house events, and other Student Services activities.

  • Generate and provide reports, as required, for both institutional and grant reporting purposes.

  • Supervise, serve, and lead a student organization

  • Serve on committees as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with a preference for major in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Leadership, or related field

  • Two (2) years related experience (e.g., academic advising, student services, or other student support roles)

  • Strong Computer Skills including proficiency in MS Office

  • Ability to work as an effective team member

  • Strong skills in communication, setting priorities, organization, and time management

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree with a preference for major in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Leadership, or related field

  • Community college/higher education experience

  • Experience working with state and/or federal grants

  • Experience with Banner, Brightspace, and other collegiate or academic software
