University of Arizona Global Campus Articulation & Prior Learning Specialist (Remote) in United States

The Articulation & Prior Learning Specialist position is a full-time employment opportunity. Working in the office of the Registrar, the Articulation & Prior Learning (APL) Specialist assists with the quality assurance and process management for the development and execution of Community College Transfer Guides, and the articulation of credits into University programs in accordance with University curricula. Additionally, the APL Specialist provides support and guidance to undergraduate and graduate students through all stages of the UAGC Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) process, including: oversight for the development and coordination of all activities related to PLA and Credit for Prior Learning. Areas such as portfolio assessment, unaccredited trainings, corporate trainings, and experiential essays are examples of PLA credit opportunities. The APL Specialist will develop a thorough understanding of the theory and application of PLA, as well as remain knowledgeable about changes in the field. The APL Specialist will act as a subject matter expert for staff and faculty. The APL Specialist will report to the Associate Director, Articulation and Prior Learning Assessment, and work in collaboration with Strategic Partnerships, Enrollment, Admission & Matriculation, Student Advising and more as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Monitor student inquiries, submissions, and follow-up on all PLA submissions.

  • Develop practices and processes that incorporate the principles and guidelines of Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) and maintains current with CPL “best practices” and organizations that align with CAEL standards.

  • Responsible for reviewing, maintaining and revising the course students must complete in order to earn credit thought experiential essay.

  • Support, guide and respond to students completing the Experiential Essay self-paced classroom modules, which includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgment in whether a module submission meets the minimum content requirements to proceed to the next module and ultimately submit for faculty review.

  • Support the monitoring, tracking and reporting of student PLA submissions, credits awarded, and tuition saving on a quarterly basis

  • Use independent judgement and expertise to provide credit recommendation and rationale on experiential essays that are not eligible for traditional credit evaluation.

  • Monitor and track incoming documents for PLA portfolios and electronically transmit necessary documents to PLA evaluators and student records.

  • Be the subject matter experts on all matters pertaining to transfer credit, Articulation and CPL and make recommendations to improve, enhance, and be leaders in transfer credit, Articulation and CPL processes based on results of feedback measures, research, conference participation and patterns emerging from data

  • Be able to easily explain, and differentiate, what ‘Traditional’, ‘Non-Traditional’ and ‘PLA’ refer to in the UAGC transfer credit catalog policy sections, and why all UAGC-designated non-traditional and PLA transfer credit falls under the CAEL CPL guidelines.

  • Support the University in oversight of guidelines related to student-by-student evaluation of transfer credits and maintain current with Articulation “best practices and organizations” including NISTS, Military, ACE, and NCCRS.

  • Understand General Education requirements and curriculum standards as set forth by the University of Arizona Global Campus Catalog.

  • Build course equivalencies in the chosen course-equivalency system, to aid in the evaluation and development of detailed course-by-course articulation guidelines in accordance with articulation agreements with other colleges, universities, and education providers.

  • Build course equivalencies in the chosen course-equivalency system for popular transfer schools and credit for prior learning that carries nationally recommended credit (ACE/NCCRS credit), to ensure consistent applicability of credits for all students.

  • Work directly with partner-peers, to create and edit transfer equivalency collateral for partner students, showing the benefits of attending UAGC upon associate degree graduation. Coordinate final approvals through COM review process. Escalate if necessary.

  • Work directly with UAGC Coordinators of Strategic Partnerships to provide timely support on all transfer credit related questions, applicable to each specific partner.

  • Provide input on student-facing collateral to ensure accuracy of transfer credit information, in alignment with the standards as set forth by the University of Arizona Global Campus Catalog.

  • Develop a familiarization with Statewide General Education Programs, Common Course Numbering Systems, and Statewide Articulation Systems.

  • Develop a familiarization with Military and other non-traditional credit opportunities.

  • Support the strategic plan for the Articulation and PLA department and ensure the resources, processes and procedures are in place to ensure success in conjunction with university-wide strategic planning and assessment.

  • Ensure all collateral, internal and external is maintained with current applicable information, including catalog and departmental policies, transfer credit applicability, best practices and guidelines and more.

  • Assist with general quality assurance and basic reporting needs related to transfer credit, Articulation and CPL. Escalate any concerns to the appropriate department.

  • Provide coverage for the Articulation and PLA inboxes, answering general inquiries. Escalate issues as necessary.

  • Develop and lead training sessions to assist faculty and staff in understanding their roles in the UAGC Articulation and PLA process

  • Develop and lead training sessions with advisors and admissions’ staff to assist them in understanding their role in the UAGC Articulation and PLA process.

  • Develop and lead in counseling sessions/webinars/tutorials for students on the benefits of transfer credits, credit for prior learning and/or UAGC PLA.

  • Attend conferences, either virtually or in person.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize Microsoft Word, Excel spreadsheets and Microsoft Outlook to manage communication and work flow.

  • Ability to follow University policies and procedures balanced with the ability to apply good independent judgment is necessary.

  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize.

  • Experience/ability to present in various settings.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

  • Demonstrate effective problem solving skills.

  • Possess outstanding communication skills (oral and written).

  • Utilize tact and diplomacy, especially when working with students.

  • Able to conceptualize big picture and at the same time be detail-oriented.

  • Maintain a professional and competent demeanor with faculty, staff, students, and community.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working directly with articulation and transfer credit evaluation highly preferred.

  • Previous experience in Registrar’s office and/or records management experience are preferred.

  • Experience with student information systems is a plus.

Rate of Pay: $47,356 - $59,195

Compensation Type: Salary at 1.0 full-time equivalence (FTE)
