Summary You will serve as a Rigger Leader (Expert) in the DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY. You will serve as an Expert Rigger leading a group to ensure work assignments are completed. This position is located in Shop 72. Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC. For example: If you are within UIC 4523A, you will only be considered for positions within 4523A. Responsibilities You will lead, train and mentor shop personnel in estimating weight and center of gravity of loads to be moved, planning weight distribution and load maneuvering, bracing, cushioning, and preparing the load and attaching appropriate lifting gear. You will explain work requirements, methods, and procedures, instruct mechanics on new procedures and provide advice when problems arise. You will be responsible for planning, arranging and executing proper and safe operations, ensuring that materials, tools, and component parts are appropriate for the work to be performed. You will accomplish routine inspection of work in process and ensure work is completed in accordance with standards and specifications. You will monitor lifting and handling operations ensuring it is completed in accordance with schematic drawings, operations manuals, and manufacturer specifications. You will oversee adjustments and repairs to maintain the operation of lifting and handling equipment, determine cause of malfunction or defects, and repair or replace worn, damaged, or defective parts. You will fabricate, install and repair standing and running rigging and wire cable or fiber rope articles, such as slings, towing bridles, nets, rope, ladders, and other ship and boat rigging and weight handling gear.
