Responsibilities
We are seeking a MicrosoftSenior Systems Administatorto support a USDA-Forest Service contract based in Boise, ID. Established in 1905, the Forest Service (FS) is a federal agency that manages public lands in national forests and grasslands under a founding principle, "To provide the greatest amount of good for the greatest amount of people in the long run". The agency’s mission is to “sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the Nation’s forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations”. The right candidate will have experience as a leader providing infrastructure systems support to a wide variety of stakeholders.
Duties, Tasks & Responsibilities
Senior System Administrator shall have knowledge, experience, and skills to meet the following:
Excellent interpersonal skills ensuring efficient management of workloads, effective stakeholder coordination, and building customer satisfaction.
Excellent oral communication and technical writing skills with English as the primary language.
Ability to work well in an interdisciplinary team environment, including government and non-government staffs and project teams.
Thrives in a dynamic and enterprise environment interested in learning across technology silos.
The ability to independently self-manage tasks across a virtual / remote working structure.
Track record of being the go-to person for coordinating and resolving complex issues.
Linux
Storage management (physical volumes, volume groups, logical volumes, file systems)
RPM database and package support
Red Hat Satellite and Capsule administration and support
RHEL Cryptographic Policy, SELinux
Sudoers, users/groups, and file/dir permissions
Supporting (SSH) mission critical applications and databases running on RHEL (Oracle, MySQL, EDB PostgreSQL, Tomcat, Apache, etc.)
Windows
Storage management (basic/dynamic disks and partitions)
Microsoft Active Directory Domain and GPO (Group Policy Object) administration
Account and password administration (create, modify, remove, resets)
WSUS administration and support
Physical server / compute administration (Dell PowerEdge R640s, R830s, R840s)
Supporting (RDP) mission critical applications and databases running on Windows (AD, Microsoft SQL, Cognos, ArcGIS, etc.)
System, application, and database backups (e.g., Veeam)
Network
Layer 1 cabling and cable layout planning
Layer 2 switching and VLAN/subnet configuration support
Layer 3 routing and cross-subnet traffic analysis
Layer 4-7 application traffic and load balancing configuration and analysis
DNS & DHCP Server
Cisco Switching, Routing, and Firewall administration
Load balancing (F5) and DDNS
VPN administration
LAN / WAN topologies and troubleshooting
General
System monitoring and alert management (e.g., Nagios, SolarWinds, vROPs/Aria)
Storage administration and support (DAS, SAN, NAS)
Supporting change requests during off-hours maintenance windows
Documentation of processes, procedures, and SOPs—providing technical feedback for others documentation
Endpoint management products and processes (e.g., Tanium, MS Defender/mdatp)
Log management concepts, products (Splunk, DynaTrace, DataDog), and operational procedures for supporting applications and operating systems.
Virtualization technology concepts, products (VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V), and operational procedures within a mixed physical/virtual environment
Help Desk Tier 4 support and escalation management
Agile Scrum framework and ceremonies
Industry standard practices for administrating compute, network, and storage resources.
Conducting technical research, reporting findings / recommendations, and organizing team efforts to implementation.
Qualifications
Required Experience, Education, Skills & Technologies
Must have a minimum of 10+ years of experience in a data center operations team
Experience supporting DoD or Federal Civilian agencies
Bachelor’s Degree in an IT field or equivalent experience
Must be US Citizen
Experience in application and infrastructure monitoring and distributed systems operations
Experience with configuration management tools
Requires an operating system certification: Red Hat, Windows, or equivalent SA certification
Preferred Experience, Education, Skills & Technologies
Experience in a lead role or managing others
Ansible [or other automation language, Puppet] experience
UNIX shell / Windows PowerShell scripting
IaaC / CaaC concepts, products, and deployment experience
Strong backup experience and proven ability to protect mission critical data
Containerization technology concepts, products (Red Hat Open Shift Container Platform, Podman), and operational procedures within a mixed VM/container environment
Cloud computing technology concepts, products (AWS, Azure, Google), and operational procedures within a mixed on-prem / cloud environment
Leadership qualities to guide and advise other system administrators and represent the team when meeting with other stakeholders
Manage timely resolution of all critical and/or complex DevOps issues
Evaluate and support opportunities for alignment between IT operations and the business
Security Clearance Level
Must be able to obtain a Public Trust
Certification
Certifications [1 or more] preferred, not required: A+, Network+, Security+, Cloud+, RHCSA/RHCE, RHCSC, RHCOA, Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, Splunk Power User, CISSP, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator, VMware Data Center Virtualization Associate/Professional

Pay Rate
The projected compensation range for this position is $130,000-$160,000. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Criterion Systems considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
