Tri-County Health Care Med Surg / Labor and Delivery RN in Wadena, Minnesota

Astera Health currently has a Part-Time Med Surg / Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) opening at the Wadena campus. Inpatient Nursing RN's primary responsibilities include providing direct patient care for our inpatient unit and are considered vital in our workflow processes as they directly care for our patients. This position is also critical in providing Labor and Delivery nursing care including pre-natal, labor and delivery, post-partum, and newborn care.

Schedule/Hours Available:

  • Part-Time: 24 hours per week, 12-hour rotating day/night shifts, including every 3rd weekend and rotating holidays

Some responsibilities of the Med Surg / Labor and Delivery RN include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Uses and documents the nursing process to provide individualized patient-focused care from admission to discharge

  • Assists the physician with rounds, physical examinations and procedures for inpatient and OB departments

  • Safely administers treatments and medications to laboring mothers and monitors laboring process

  • Performs delivery preparations indicated, i.e., IV’s and pain management options.

  • Uses and maintains equipment in obstetrical areas, i.e., fetal heart monitor, infant warmer, oxygen supplies, birthing bed, and stocks supplies to ensure safe, effective patient care.

  • Sets up room for delivery and assists the provider in delivery care for the newborn. Scrubs in and assists in care of infant in C-section deliveries.

  • Conducts and documents patient teaching and discharge instructions with patient, partner and significant others and appropriate health care providers to ensure safe continuity of care.

  • Performs patient care activities to provide for the physical, social, psychological, and spiritual needs of the patient/family.

  • Establishes and performs ongoing culturally sensitive patient/family teaching and discharge planning to meet the identified goals of the patient care plan. Encourages patient/family participation in assuring a safe hospital experience.

  • Initiates and/or assists with Basic Cardiac Life Support in cardiopulmonary arrest (when indicated) using appropriate age and size related equipment for adult and neonatal emergencies.

  • Will be required to float to the Inpatient unit based on organizational needs.

    Education and experience required:

  • Current licensure as Registered Nurse (RN) in Minnesota

  • Maintain active BLS, NRP and STABLE Certifications

  • Two or more years of labor and delivery experience preferred
