Salary Grade NC16 Salary Range $54,197.00 - $94,844.00
Serves as an entry level engineer in the Design and Construction Engineering Development Squad. Implement updates to bridge design specifications. Formulate design calculations for engineering applications, verify design software performs computations as intended. Write and update in-house design software manuals. Provide training and technical assistance to Field Operation engineers who are involved in design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls and other structures. Advise internal and external engineers of changes through written and oral communication. Check design calculations for moderately complex and standard structural components of bridges, culverts, retaining walls and other structures. Review work of engineers and technicians when tasks are completed. Develop and write structure management policies and procedures, as directed. Update the Structure Management’s Design Manual. Develop and review special provisions for various structure-related items, as directed. Prepare detailed sketches for technicians to use in revising manual figures and standard drawings. Advise Project Engineer and/or Unit Head with structural analyses and prepare reports for internal and external meetings. Review proposed AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications.

Experience in coordinating and participating in a collaborative approach to complete assignments.
Additional Expectations:
Knowledge of the design and analysis of highway structures and the ability to keep up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise. Ability to prepare and review small or less complex engineering and technical plans and/or data for completeness, compatibility, compliance with engineering principles, standards, codes, and design needs. Ability to express basic engineering concepts and related facts in a clear, concise, and organized manner. Ability to apply mathematical, physical, and engineering sciences to routine services or creative works as consultation, investigation, evaluation, planning and design of engineering/geometric projects. Ability to coordinate and participate in a collaborative approach to the completion of tasks or assignments. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
