The Utilities Unit facilitates and manages the relocation, adjustment, removal, and addition of utilities along highways and rights of way the N.C. Department of Transportation owns while maintaining and preserving the integrity of the highway system and ensuring the safety of its users. We are looking for an Engineer II to work as a Senior Utilities Engineer in Raleigh.

In the position you will:

  • Provide engineering support and decisions on projects assigned to the region.

  • Manage projects and engineering resources in support of engineering design activities and schedules for NCDOT projects.

  • Make technical recommendations and represent the Regional Utilities Manager and the Regional Utilities Engineer in presenting these recommendations.

  • Perform reviews of the Utility Analysis and Routing Reports, utility relocation plans and special provisions, project estimates, and cost responsibility determinations.

  • Provide technical support and make recommendations in the continued support of the Divisions during project construction.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Experience developing relocation strategies, designing, reviewing, or providing engineering support for the construction of utilities (water, sewer, electric power, gas, or telecommunications).

  • Experience communicating technical information, verbally and in writing, to a range of partners, team members, or stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate on technical matters with other engineers, technical staff, and multidisciplinary team members.

  • Working knowledge of CADD, and MS Office software to access and manipulate data, applications, documents, and design plans.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
