Independent Living Coordinator: Youth Transition Program

Reports to: Program Manager

Assist in providing the necessary independent living skills and real-life experience for self-directed youth aged 14-24 with disabilities to help them transition into the post-high school world successfully.

Duties:
Workshops
  • Provide one-on-one workshops to youth with disabilities to develop independent living skills necessary to successfully transition to adulthood
  • Provide group workshops to schools or classroom settings to develop independent living skills necessary to successfully transition to adulthood
  • Expand the established youth transition workshop curriculum
  • Develop and maintain new services and funding sources to provide transition services to students and youth with disabilities
Quest for Independence Camp
  • Oversee the program's development, plan and implement all camp activities including trips and special activities and/or assignments.
  • Assist the marketing camp and locating interested Youth wishing to participate
  • Monitor and ensure appropriate participant behavior and adherence to camp rules and regulations, including overnight stays.
  • Assess the overall program to identify opportunities for improvement.
Support Groups

Coordinate Youth Transition Program support group and other groups as assigned.

General
  • Keep all consumer file data accurate and up to date
  • Seek opportunities to grow and expand the reach of OSCILs Youth Transition Program across Rhode Island
Education/Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in human services or experience in human service field
  • Possess strong organizational skills, able to set priorities for task accomplishment and work independently.
  • Must be proficient with computers and technology, including knowledge of Microsoft 365 Office software.
  • Possess good written and communication skills to accurately convey program information including policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of disability-related issues through work or lived experience is preferable.
  • Must be willing to travel throughout the state of Rhode Island.
Salary:

As determined by experience, credentials, and the financial consideration of OSCIL.

Hours: 35 hours per week
Performance Evaluation and Probationary Period:

All new employees will be subject to a probationary period of six months. The supervisor shall perform bi-monthly written performance evaluations during the probationary period, with a performance evaluation being performed annually thereafter. As a small organization operating in a very dynamic environment, a significant amount of flexibility and teamwork is required. Employees are expected to work collaboratively to ensure OSCILs success.
