Overview

The Vermont Department of Health (VDH) is excited to hire a Public Health Analyst III (PHA III) in the Research Epidemiology and Evaluation Unit (REE) of the Division of Health Statistics and Informatics (HSI). This analyst is the lead for substance use surveillance in HSI and provides evaluation support and capacity for the Division of Substance Use Programs (DSU). This position will oversee required reporting for grants, public reports for substance use and oversight of analytic projects completed by HSI-REE substance use analysts.

This position provides statistical analysis and reporting of data related to substance use. This requires knowledge of a statistical software package as well as data collection, management, analysis, and visualization. The PHA III works in partnership with DSU to determine, manage, and prioritize analytic and evaluation needs. This position will consult on or implement evaluation plans related to substance use as requested. The PHA III will also respond and triage data requests and develop data presentations for stakeholders. The PHA III will work with key partners in the Health Department including DSU, the Division of Emergency Preparedness and Injury Prevention, as well as partners in other state departments and agencies. This position will perform related duties as required. It is a supervisory position responsible for supervising analysts on the DSU analytic team within HSI-REE. This opportunity is full-time, based in Waterbury, VT and is supportive of a hybrid/flexible work environment.

The position operates under the REE Unit Chief. All analysts are expected to work on multiple teams, including the HSI-REE Unit, the Substance Use Program team, and special topic workgroups. Expertise in Microsoft Office and statistical analysis software (SAS, SPSS, Stata, R, etc.) is required. Experience with Microsoft PowerBI is desired but not required.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed primarily in a standard office setting. Meetings with data users and providers may require some travel, for which private means of transportation must be available. Some work outside of normal office hours may be required.
