Position Purpose
The Collector is responsible for assisting to control delinquency and loan loss by collecting past due accounts and other debts. The role of the collector is to resolve the account and never add to the loss.
Essential Duties
Control delinquency and loan losses, while maintaining good member relationships.
Work within the guidelines and standards set by State & Federal regulations and Credit Union policies.
Contact members through various communication channels through interviewing members to establish their ability to pay.
Make payment arrangements on past due loans and negative account balances.
Document all conversations with member regarding past due accounts in collection system.
Scan all pertinent documentation to members account in appropriate imaging software.
Recommend repossession, foreclosure or legal action to the Collection Coordinator or Collection Manager.
Process adding and refunding Collateral Protection Insurance premiums, adjusting payment amounts as necessary.
Submit CUNA debt protection claims.
Submit warranty refunds, GAP and GAP Plus claims
Process member requests for an extension or modification of their loan agreement and submit to the Collection Coordinator or Collection Manager for approval.
Proactively work negative savings and checking accounts.
Remove credit limits, close savings, checking accounts and plastics per Credit Union policy.
Understands regulations and internal policies related to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and completes annual training.
Perform other duties and assigned.
Education/Experience
1-3 years previous collections experience
High School graduate or equivalent
