Koi Pond Maintenance Technician Job description Local Pond Company currently seeking a Koi Pond Maintenance Technician. Candidate would be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of koi ponds, including cleaning debris, monitoring water quality, maintaining filtration systems, managing plant life, and performing minor repairs to ensure the health and well-being of the koi fish within the pond, often requiring knowledge of aquatic biology and pond equipment operation. Key responsibilities may include: Pond Cleaning Regularly removing debris, leaves, and excess fish food from the pond surface using nets and skimmers. Cleaning pond bottom sediment with a vacuum cleaner. Removing algae growth from pond walls and surfaces. Water Quality Management Performing routine water quality tests to monitor parameters like pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and dissolved oxygen levels. Adjusting water chemistry as needed by adding necessary chemicals (e.g., dechlorinator, algaecide). Filtration Maintenance: Inspecting and cleaning pond filters (biological, mechanical, and UV) to ensure optimal water circulation and filtration. Backwashing filters as required. Checking and adjusting pump functionality. Maintaining aquatic plant life within the pond, including trimming and removing excess vegetation. Fish Health Monitoring Observing koi fish behavior for signs of illness or distress. Identifying and treating potential fish diseases as needed. Feeding koi fish according to their needs and water conditions. Minor Repairs such asFixing minor leaks in pond liners or equipment. Replacing damaged pond components (e.g., hoses, pipes, aeration systems). Preparing the pond for winter by lowering water levels and adding winter protection measures. Spring clean-up and re-establishment of pond features.
