Job Description: Campus Title: Painter II State Job Title: Painter II Department: Trades Job Code: H16X28 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Funding: 7115-0100 Bargaining Unit: AFSCME Job Type: Full-Time Permanent Timeframe: 52 Weeks Shift: Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM (some nights and weekends may be required) Regular Days Off: Saturday and Sunday Supervision Received: Receives general supervision from Building Maintenance Supervisor II and Director of Facilities and Operations. Receives assignments through School Dude, email, and/or verbal communication. Direct Reporting Staff: Painter I, Summer Employees Salary: \$2,138.04 Bi-Weekly Working Conditions: Painters stand for long periods of time; work outdoors in all types of weather; are exposed to noxious gas and fumes; work on ladders and/or scaffolding at heights greater than 10 feet; lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 lbs; may be exposed to high-speed vehicular traffic; may work in confined areas; may work varied shifts, weekends and nights. General Statement of Duties: Maintains campus buildings by selecting, purchasing, and applying paints, varnishes, and stains to all types of surfaces; adheres to safety standards; oversees the work of others assigned to assist in special projects, trains and supervises summer workers. Provides direct supervision to Painter I and summer employees. Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include but not limited to: Essential: Select and purchase appropriate materials to complete work orders, including selecting best paint, varnish or stain for the surface to be renovated while maintaining cost-effective goals; estimates time, cost and quantities of materials to complete projects; reads and/or interprets blueprints, sketches, instructions, or layouts to understand work to be done, and makes recommendations; tracks paint/painting supply inventory for all buildings; and works with the staff. Applies paints, varnishes, and stain to all types of surfaces including but not limited to all buildings, athletic fields, roadways, and parking lots; prepares surfaces for painting using appropriate tools and techniques; operates hand and power tools related to the trade; performs related work as required. Works with summer painters, oversees their work, and assists with painting projects. Plans and assigns work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of the subordinate and available resources; controls work through periodic reviews; and determining subordinate\'s training needs and provides or arranges for such training; motivates subordinates to work effectively. Provides supervision to a Painter I. Requirements: Qualifications Required at Hire: Knowledge of the practices and techniques of painting. Knowledge of the types and uses of paints, varnishes, and stains as well as painting tools. Knowledge of the practices and techniques of mixing and matching paints. Knowledge of the properties, characteristics, and methods of preparation of wood, glass, metal, plaster, cement and other surfaces. Knowledge of the safety practices and procedures relative to the use of ladders, scaffold, and other climbing equipment; knowledge of the uses and storage of chemical solvents. Ability to apply joint compound and to prepare surfaces for painting. Skill in applying paints and other finishes by brush, cloth, air gun, roller, sprayer, etc. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Three to five years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in painting work, and two years of supervisory experience, or the substitutions listed in the state specifications.
