All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in this job order and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in boxes 3 & 4 on page 1. Workers are needed to seed, transplant, maintain, and harvest multiple vegetable crops both outdoors and from high tunnels. Workers will perform field and high tunnel work including planting, transplanting, weeding, thinning, hoeing, and other tasks required in the planting, maintenance, and harvest of various vegetable crops. Workers will transport harvested produce from field to farm buildings, as well as sort, wash, pack, and otherwise prepare various crops for storage and shipping after harvest. Workers will load and unload farm vehicles, clean and organize vehicles as well as barn storage areas, set up and operate various types of irrigation equipment, and may cut vegetation or brush from in and around fields, buildings, and equipment. Workers must have previous commercial experience with greenhouse seeding, as well as transplanting, maintaining, and harvesting multiple vegetable crops both outdoors and from high tunnels. Workers must have previous commercial experience and ability to perform various tasks required, in particular, for sweet potato production, including planting slips into plastic mulch, and harvesting by hand. Work is physically demanding requiring workers to stand, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods of time. Workers must be physically able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a consistent basis. Workers may operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmer's fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, and western union on an as-needed basis. Those that are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid drivers license; no worker will be rejected for not having a driver's license. Workers may be required to work 11 hours shifts between the hours of 6:00am - 6:00pm from Monday through Thursday and may be required to work 10 hours shifts between the hours of 6:00am - 6:00pm on Friday and Saturday. Worker will be given 60 minutes for lunch which is staggered between 11am - 1pm as agreed upon by the crew and management. Workers can choose where to eat their lunch and return to work after their 60 minutes are up. The beginning and ending times each day, and the number of hours per day, will vary depending on weather and crop conditions. Overtime pays, calculated at 1.5 x the base rate listed in 8b of Part A, will be awarded for hours more than 45 worked in any week. All workers will also be entitled to a maximum of 40 hours of Sick Pay, earned at the rate of one hour of Sick Pay for every 40 hours worked. Sickness will be determined in consultation with the employer, with emphasis on avoiding contagions that could pass on to others through personal contact or via contaminated produce.
