The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Technician III to join our Division Design Construction (DDC) Engineering team.
In this role, you will:
- Conduct field surveys and mapping in our DDC office.
- Perform surveying, data collection, and mapping for division-managed projects.
- Conduct data management, integrating data into design files, property reconnaissance, and field ties, and computing property information for determining Right of Way impacts, etc.
- Perform route location surveys, design horizontal and vertical alignments, construction surveys, and development and analysis of 3D surface models.
What You Bring
- Experience using surveying equipment, instruments, levels, data collectors and GPS.
- Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans.
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
- Computer experience, including Microsoft Office, MicroStation, GeoPak, drafting software, and corridor modeling.
- Ability to respond to the public, local government agencies, Raleigh-based staff, and private engineering firms regarding the status and design of highway projects within the Division.
- Experience performing highway construction stakeouts.
- Working knowledge of field surveying procedures and proficiency with robotic instruments, data collection and GPS.
- Ability to budget time and coordinate schedules with others.
- Fitness and agility to transverse steep and uneven terrain.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- Safety toe shoes.
Education and Experience
- Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
- 3+ years of relevant technician experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
