Job Title: Harvest Floater
Job Description
*Work Hours: 12-hour shifts - Hours may vary between 1st and 2nd shift. Workers need to be flexible.
Harvest Job Purpose:
A harvest floater may be assigned to any of the harvest positions as necessary to continue operations in the absence of other workers due to illness, vacation, etc. The floater position may lend support during busy times and should be prepared to switch tasks as needed to support the seasonal business needs of the organization.
General Duties & Expectations - All Positions:
Abide by safety policies/procedures and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while completing any and all work on property
Abide by lock-out/tag-out, E-Stop, and other equipment safety policies/processes
Maintain cleanliness of the work environment by sweeping, removing debris, etc., in the work area as workload allows and as required
Report any accidents, near-miss incidents, or safety violations and bring any issues, potential hazards, or concerns to the attention of sorting supervisors or safety coordinators as soon as possible, no later than the end of your shift
Participate in any incident/accident investigations with teams as necessary to find the root cause of incidents
Maintain cleanliness of break rooms by cleaning up after yourself and following posted expectations
Follow the direction of Supervisors for additional work duties that may be necessary/required
Receiving Operator Job Purpose:
To ensure that all carriers are unloaded on the correct receiving line with the correct material to avoid loss of time, product, and profit due to mix of hybrids. Additionally, the receiving operator will be responsible to ensure carriers do not operate equipment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Receiving Operator Duties:
Kernel and ear clean receiving line between hybrids
Maintain proper staging of incoming carrier trucks to effectively utilize time allowing for safe and efficient unloading
Verify incoming carrier information from scale ticket to cross-check for accuracy prior to unloading
Ensure safety and compliance of carrier operators during unloading
Select ears to represent the load as a whole for moisture samples
Maintain adequate volume of ear corn in the pits to maximize efficiency in husker and sorter operations
Be aware of how weather conditions impact the operation of equipment and flow of materials
Work outdoors and may work in weather conditions as necessary and safe to do so
Stop operations if a safety or quality concern is identified and contact the appropriate supervisor
Aid in resolving concerns and issues with minimal lost productivity
Husker Operator Job Purpose:
To operate husking machines removing husks from the ear corn so that the sorters can view and sort the corn.
Husker Operator Duties:
Ensure material flow into equipment is adequate and evenly dispersed as trained
Partner with the sorting supervisor to maintain even flow of ear corn on sorting tables
Ensure kernel cleans have been completed as required between material changes
Stop operations if a safety or quality concern is identified and contact supervisor
Aid in resolving concerns and issues with minimal lost productivity
Husker Operator Assistant Job Purpose:
To assist with the husking process removing husks from the ear corn so that the sorters can view and sort the corn.
Husker Operator Assistant Duties:
Assist Husker Operators as required with the husking/sorting operations
Provide clear instruction when necessary to eliminate misinterpretation and misunderstanding
Maintain material movement flowing smoothly from the tilted belt conveyor through the huskers
Monitor the husk discard system to ensure material is flowing through appropriately
Assist with kernel cleans as required between material changes
Sheller Operator Job Purpose:
Work with the shelling process to utilize standard operating procedures to maintain safety and quality. Empty and clean dryer bins according to instructions and ensure they are free of any kernels/cobs that could pose a contamination to the next material filled into the dryer bin.
Sheller Operator Duties:
Communicate with Sheller Operator and Dryer Control Operator throughout the process
Physically open and close dryer doors safely and in accordance with policy to release ear corn onto the conveyor belt
Work with Dryer Control personnel and utilize safety procedures and appropriate protocol to ensure bin doors are opened safely and in accordance with procedure
Monitor the flow of ear corn coming from the dryer bin to ensure even flow
Kernel/ear clean assigned bins while abiding by safety processes to eliminate and minimize hazards
Bin Fill Operator Job Purpose:
Work with the shelling process to utilize standard operating procedures to maintain safety and quality. Fill drying bins with ear corn utilizing a conveyor system according to instructions and procedures as communicated by dryer control operators and sorting supervisor.
Bin Fill Operator Duties:
Communicate directly with Dryer Control Operators/Personnel for notification of which bin to fill
Determine the appropriate fill level based on experience and training and to the specifications from Dryer Control
Kernel clean bins as necessary, abiding by appropriate safety procedures
Operate/use only equipment, machines, and/or tools for which trained
May work in weather conditions when safe to do so; awareness of impact on material flow is important
Harvest Sampler Job Purpose:
To utilize appropriate equipment and processes to determine the appropriate husk deduction and moisture content of incoming loads and track results accordingly in grids. Moisture content determines drying needs and directly impacts the quality of the seed as it moves through the harvest stabilization processes.
Harvest Sampler Duties:
Utilize appropriate processes and equipment to test and calculate moisture content
Assist in setting up of grid containing pre-harvest moisture sample information and populating the grid appropriately
Collect samples from incoming trucks for moisture testing
Utilize husk deduction system or manual husk deduction procedure to determine appropriate husk deduction
Maintain appropriate tracking information into grids for calculations and records
Stop operations if a safety or quality concern is identified and contact the appropriate supervisor
Aid in resolving concerns and issues with minimal lost productivity
Physical Task Requirements:
All Positions: Ability to climb and/or work in elevated areas, standing/sitting for extended periods, operating machinery, motor vehicles such as trucks and/or forklifts, repetitive motion and/or repetitive lifting (minimum requirement 60 lbs.), exposure to weather and environmental conditions (e.g., heat, dust, cold), must be able to distinguish varieties of seed based on color. Workers will enter confined spaces following confined space specifications and in accordance with the Description Identifying Permit Required Confined Space/Exception Permit regulations and safety protocol.

This is a fully on-site position in Woodhull, Illinois.

Available to work weekdays and weekends. Hours 6 AM - 6:30 PM. Workers need to be flexible.
