The Group Research Team (RG) is searching for a skilled and experienced Pilot Plant Research Engineer to join our organization. This challenging opportunity requires expertise in process research, product development, and scale-up to support our esteemed BASF business partners throughout North America.

As a crucial member of our team, you will play a significant role in supporting our business partners by providing consultation, conducting experimental testing, overseeing pilot scale development, and managing repetitive manufacturing. Collaborating closely with product development, commercial implementation, corporate engineering, and manufacturing teams, you will ensure that scientific results and new products are delivered punctually and meet the expectations of our valued business partners.

As a Polymer Pilot Plant Sr. Scientist, You Create Chemistry By...

  • Partnering with business groups, colleagues, research chemists, and engineers to discover, develop, and scale up the piloting and manufacturing processes to meet business within the specified project timeline.

  • Developing operating disciplines, policies, and operating procedures for safe pilot plant trials and safe small-scale production.

  • Planning and safely executing projects for technology demonstration and data generation. Properly document environmental emissions, waste disposal, and equipment cleaning.

  • Assessing safety procedures and policies, and participating in HAZOP process. Lead safety review of existing, new, and start-ups of processes and assets.

  • Contributing to operator training to improve the technical knowledge of technicians and providing engineering support and training to colleagues, technicians, and the community to set up, troubleshoot, operate, and optimize assets.

  • Providing guidance in SDSs, chemical storage, waste disposal, handling of toxic & hazardous materials, as well as safe laboratory operating principles.

If you...

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering with 10+ years' experience, preferably in piloting and small-scale production with ability to identify hazards and apply risk mitigation techniques.

  • Have experience scaling up process technology or chemical production, from lab to pilot scale or pilot to commercial.

  • Possess experience with chemical engineering unit operations and reactor design, including equipment sizing as well as a strong understanding of organic chemistry.

  • Have hands-on experience with distributive control systems and troubleshooting pilot or production chemical processes.

  • Excel in communication and documentation of results in a timely fashion and are a collaborative team player, driven to accomplish organizational goals, improving efficiency at the group level.

  • Have expertise in polymer reaction synthesis as well as proficient in experimentation tools, DOE testing techniques, and have experience in reaction engineering or reaction modeling using software such as ASPEN.
